Time for a bumper summer season in Cleethorpes with its old clock back in action

The hands of time at Cleethorpes Railway Station are back in action right on time for the start of the holiday season.
Thanks to a partnership between Network Rail, TransPennine Express and the Railway Heritage Group the station clock has been returned to its prime and reinstalled.
Having occupied its dominant position on the skyline of Cleethorpes since the 1880s, the four-tonne timepiece was dismantled by Colt Construction and taken to Hull in August so that refurbishment work could be carried out.
However whilst workers were on site it was discovered that the tower itself had deteriorated at a much faster rate than was first thought. Many of the wooden elements of the tower had fallen victim to rot and would have to be replaced.
The finish time of January was put back to April, but after extensive work to both the clock and the tower, the timepiece was lowered back into place overnight – slightly ahead of schedule.
