Liftshare week: Save the planet and your purse

Liftshare week is a pat on the back for all those people who already car-share and an opportunity for those thinking about it to give it a try.

Nationally from October 6 to 10, the week is promoted by where people are encouraged to think about how they get to work each day and whether they can share that journey with someone else.

Locally the annual event is supported by North East Lincolnshire Council through the Local Sustainable Transport Fund and aims to get more people sharing their car journeys to work. This helps to reduce congestion across the borough and improves the environment by reducing the number of cars on the road each morning.

Anthony Snell, senior transport officer with the council’s delivery partner Cofely, said: “You don’t even have to be a driver to car share, many local motorists are happy to share their journey for a contribution towards the cost of the petrol.

“Anyone interested in car sharing should visit and register their trip, from there they’ll be able to search for people making similar journeys.

“And, this month anyone who registers with will be entered into a draw to win a £50 Freshney Place voucher. However, even if you don’t win remember that as soon as you start car sharing you start saving yourself money.”
