From trains to cycles – new plans for Cleethorpes railway booking office
Initial planning permission has been granted for a new cycle hub at Cleethorpes railway station.
Train operator TransPennine Express welcomed the council approval for a change of use for the former booking office, and said it would now begin design work.
Previously the government announced the results of bids from the Coastal Revival Fund, with £50,000 awarded to this area for a new cycle hub.
A TransPennine Express spokesperson said: “As part of our new franchise we have committed to delivering over £18 million of investment in our station facilities.
“This includes the provision of more cycling and car parking spaces.
“We have in that regard applied for and been granted permission to develop a new cycle hub at Cleethorpes station. The planning permission to convert the old booking office area is the first step in delivering this facility.
“We now need to complete detailed design work with North East Lincolnshire Council, Network Rail and contractors to ensure we offer the most appropriate cycle facility.
“We will provide further details of the scheme when they have been confirmed.”
