Brill Barberz at where Brereton meets Bramhall!

A highly experienced hairdresser is hoping to prove she is a cut above the rest after opening her own barbershop.

Amanda Spurrell, 31, has opened Barberz on the corner of Brereton Avenue and Bramhall Street in Cleethorpes, with the help of her partner David Kerr.

The hairdresser, who has been in the industry since the age of 15, is looking forward to going it alone for the first time and hopes the modern outlet will prove to be a success in the area.

Barberz brings life back to 293 Brereton Avenue, which has stood vacant for the past 15 years after it was previously a newsagent.

And Amanda and David, 37, have pumped £2,500 into the business to get it off the ground.

“I had my own shop in Waltham for five years and then I worked at a number of other places,” Amanda said.

“I then went away from hairdressing and did singing around the clubs in Grimsby and Cleethorpes before deciding to get back into barbering.

“I was working for someone else and I just thought ‘I’m fed up of this’ so from that moment I decided that I wanted to go on my own.

“I have always loved hairdressing and I’ve been doing it for 16 years now.

“I was trained at Eric Wakefield’s salon in Cleethorpes, which has been regarded as one of the top ones in the area.”

Amanda and David made the decision to set up business after the vacant premises caught their eye while they were driving past.

“We just saw it and thought we should give it a go,” Amanda added.

“I think it is in a great position because there aren’t many traditional barbers in the area.

“I think a lot of people in the area don’t necessarily want to walk to Grimsby Road either so it is convenient.

“As well as being a barbers, we also do ladies cuts too.”

David said: “We have had some really good feedback from customers so far and they are pleased that the shop is being brought back into use.

“We’ve had a good start and we are looking forward to the future.”

As the owners of Barberz look to welcome customers new and old to the shop, they are offering 50 per cent off the price of someone’s fifth haircut.
