About The Project
The Sidney Park Friends community group in Cleethorpes has been awarded nearly £50,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund for an exciting new heritage project.
It is our aim to research and record the history of Sidney Park and it’s surrounding area in the Sidney Sussex Ward of North East Lincolnshire.
This project is an ideal opportunity for us to collate and make available all of our area’s historical information and create a living history website for the benefit of future citizens of our town.
To gather all historical information together, we are collecting stories and photographs (past and present) from local people, accompanied by researching through interviews and consultation events, which we hope creates a sense of community inclusion. Along with this, we aim to help create new skills and raise social and personal aspirations in our area, which unfortunately is classed as ‘prior to’ one of the most deprived areas of the country.
Likewise, we hope that this project will promote a more positive use of our area, for social use and benefits for all, but particularly young people, which at the moment is badly required.
We are working with 3 main Heritage providers, The North East Lincolnshire Council’s Library Archives, The Sidney Sussex College Archives and The Friends of Cleethorpes Heritage, who have all identified a gap of information for the Sidney Sussex area.
We also have on our team a selection of professionals such as an accountant, gardener, local historian, design draftsman, former Councillors, a web designer and The Cleethorpes Chronicle.
